About this list
At A2 you can handle everyday situations on your own: renting a flat, shopping and returning an item, explaining a health problem, travelling, dealing with a bank or a post office. This collection has 749 vocabulary cards and 112 sentence cards, 861 flashcards in total.
It builds on the French A1 Vocabulary collection without repeating it: no word taught there comes back as a new card, and the decks follow the same order of themes, so each one continues its A1 counterpart.
We built the list from the vocabulary themes of the key contents inventory of Eaquals and France Éducation international and from the everyday tasks of the DELF A2. The CEFR gives no official word count; studies estimate about 1,650 words at A2 for French, and the A1 and A2 collections together have about that many. Every card was reviewed by a native French speaker. Flashcards Master is not affiliated with France Éducation international, which runs the DELF.
Each card shows English on the front, with both the American and the British word when they differ, and French on the back. Sentences addressed to “you” show both the formal (vous) and informal (tu) forms.

Questions
How many words do you need for French A2?
The CEFR sets no official number. Studies that tested learners estimate about 1,650 known words at A2 in French, against about 1,160 at A1. The A1 and A2 collections together give you that range, with 749 new vocabulary cards in this one.
Do I need the A1 vocabulary first?
Yes. This collection assumes the A1 words, such as the days, food, clothes or family, and never teaches them again. If they are not solid yet, start with the French A1 Vocabulary collection.
How long does it take to learn the A2 vocabulary?
With 20 new cards a day and daily reviews, you can go through the 861 cards in about six weeks. Spaced repetition then brings back each word just before you forget it.
Is there a printable PDF?
Yes. Every deck page has its own printable PDF, an English and French table, and the link at the top of this page downloads all 24 decks in one file. Each PDF has a QR code to add the cards to Flashcards Master.
Are the decks free?
Yes. Adding a deck is free, and the free version of Flashcards Master lets you review up to 100 cards a day.
