Good to know

• To switch a light or a device on, say « allumer ». To switch it off, « éteindre ». « Ouvrir » and « fermer » are only for doors, windows and taps.
• « Passer l'aspirateur » means to vacuum: « Je passe l'aspirateur le samedi ».
• « Faire la lessive » is to do the laundry, « faire la vaisselle » to do the dishes and « faire le lit » to make the bed.
