Which common verbs take « à » before an infinitive?

commencer à (to start), continuer à (to keep, to continue; « continuer de » is also correct), apprendre à (to learn), réussir à (to manage), aider quelqu'un à (to help someone), penser à (to remember to)
J'apprends à nager. (I'm learning to swim.)
Pense à fermer la porte. (Remember to close the door.)

Which common verbs take « de » before an infinitive?

arrêter de (to stop), essayer de (to try), décider de (to decide), oublier de (to forget), finir de (to finish), choisir de (to choose), refuser de (to refuse)
« de » becomes « d' » before a vowel.
J'essaie de dormir. (I'm trying to sleep.)

Which common verbs take an infinitive with no preposition?

aimer (to like), adorer (to love), détester (to hate), préférer (to prefer), vouloir (to want), pouvoir (can), devoir (must), aller (to go), and savoir in the sense of “to know how to”.
J'aime danser. (I like dancing.) Il sait nager. (He can swim.)

Which common adjectives are followed by « de », « à » or « en »?

content de (happy with), heureux de (happy to), sûr de (sure of), différent de (different from)
prêt à (ready to)
fort en, nul en (good at, bad at a subject)
Je suis content de te voir. (I'm happy to see you.)
Tu es prêt à partir ? (Are you ready to leave?)
